Born in Landstuhl, Germany, Philip spent his childhood in Europe before moving to America in his early teens. Although Philip always had a fascination with the arts it was his mother who first planted the seed of trying his hand at hair.
Philip’s first step into the industry was as an apprentice at a Toni & Guy concept salon in Maryland, USA at the young age of 20. His first day on the job, he set foot on the floor of his first hair show and that was it, Philip had found his calling.
Chasing dreams all the way to LA turned out to be challenging but Philip wasn’t going to fail. Doing whatever it took to rebuild, Philip was humbled by the hard work it took to stay afloat but this challenge only fueled his ambition and devotion for the industry.
Philip found a home at the prestigious Beverly Hills Privé Salon. His talents were quickly noticed and he was offered the opportunity to work for 9 months in Seoul, Korea at the W Hotel, where he cut hair for a number of celebrities, models, and high-end clientele, including the Samsung family, and worked on a number of runway shows, television shows, and the incredibly popular MTV Asia network.
Following his success in Asia, Philip returned to LA a newly exhilarated artist. Beverly Hills is the place he would find his space to create a name for himself as a celebrity stylist with a clientele including many A-list actors, and high-end entertainment executives, including the one and only, Kim Kardashian.
Along with a busy schedule behind the chair, Philip served as an artistic educator for Privé for the next five years, where ambitions of launching his own independent education arm with fellow stylist Chief Behr, grew.
In 2010, Philip left Privé to develop WOLFFBEHR education with brother artist, Chief Behr, and opened a boutique Beverly Hills salon where Philip established himself as the go-to for master hair cutting in Los Angeles.
Philip enjoys creating an array of styles from short, super edgy cuts to sexy, long classic looks, and everything in between. While many hairdressers specialize in either male or female cuts, Philip doesn’t restrict himself to one gender. In late 2016, Philip rocked the social media world with his unique style of haircutting. He discovered a fun way of sharing his creative edge with the world and used Instagram to express some of the more exceptional styles he has always had the desire to portray. His work immediately picked up admiration and his Instagram following grew like wildfire. His passion for the work he does shines bright and inspires his followers from all over the world.
In 2017, with the win of a Behind the Chair Award, he was asked by multiple beauty brands to join as an educator and ambassador. He began traveling, teaching technical cutting, and performing styling demonstrations for the likes of: Behind The Chair, Brazilian Bond Builder, Bellami Hair, Matrix, and more.
In 2018, Philip partnered with Australian based, Zen Master Scissors, to personally handcraft his very own, one-of-a-kind Wolff Shear, an all-around master cutting scissor: fully designed by Philip himself, with the help of a true Japanese Master Samurai Swordsman.
The ability to connect with people around the world through social media has had a tremendous impact on Philip’s career. He works hard to provide his followers with new and exciting videos of the work he does in his studio and on the road, showcasing his skill as a versatile cutter and his unique personal lifestyle of music and fashion.
Philip is breaking the mold and redefining what it is to be a hairdresser.
When he isn’t working for and traveling with the brands he admires, he can be found in Beverly Hills in the private studio suite he shares with his partner Dani Tygr: testing new products, trying new looks, creating content, and servicing his loyal clientele. He continues to share a special partnership and brotherhood with industry leader Alfredo Lewis, sharing a passion for the hair industry, traveling the world bringing education and the heart of hairdressing, back to the artists through their independent educational world tours.
